Fly Fishing

Lonesome Valley enjoys a rich tradition of trout that make their home in the clear, cold, waters of western North Carolina. Serving as one of the earliest commercial trout farms in this area, the Jennings Trout Farm operation dates as far back as the 1950’s.  Today, Rainbow and Brown trout raised in the Lonesome Valley waters rise to the flies presented by anglers of all abilities at the Lonesome Valley Trout Pond.

The Trout Pond has played host to some of America’s finest fly fishing personalities, including ESPN’s Fly Fishing America host, Chad Foster, who describes the Lonesome Valley Trout pond as “world class”.  Chad, a Lonesome Valley property owner, has assisted in the planning, design, and management of all Lonesome Valley fishing destinations. The Trout Pond is designated for ‘fly-fishing only’ and catch and release, ensuring a strong, healthy trout population for years to come.

In addition to superb trout fishing in the Trout Pond, Lonesome Valley also offers exciting Largemouth Bass and Bream fishing on Long Lake, a five acre, spring-fed lake nestled in the valley with spectacular views of Laurel Knob and Cow Rock mountain.  Long Lake is fully stocked with canoes and kayaks for individual excursions and/or exciting family fishing adventures.

The tradition and adventure of trout (and more) at Lonesome Valleys continues!
